Tube Setting & Flush Setting Gemstones
If you love a little sparkle and are looking to take your jewellery making to the next level then this is the perfect day of workshops!
The gemstone setting day consists of 2 workshops running back to back in which you can choose either one of the workshops or enjoy it as full day intensive.
These skills can’t help but will propel you jewellery making to the next level!
Tube Setting Workshop -
Tube setting is a method of setting round faceted gemstones. This is stylish way to incorporate colour & beauty of gemstones into your jewellery designs and a fantastic first step towards more complex gemstone settings.
During this 3 hour workshop you will be learning the skills and practicing to set different sized faceted gemstones into silver tubing. After getting a good grasp of the setting technique you will move on to making either a pendant, a ring or pair of earrings from a set project.
Flush Setting Workshop -
Flush setting is the technique whereby a facet gemstone is set into a piece of jewellery so that the table of the stone is flush with the surface of the metal. Flush setting is a great alternative to having raised setting such as a bezel, tubes or prongs, adding a sleek look to your designs.
During this 3 hour workshop you will be learning the different types of stones suitable for flush setting, the dynamics, technique and practicing to flush set a number of stones. You will then have the opportunity to transfer these skills onto either a pendant, ring, or pair of earrings from a set project
Please Note :: This workshop is for people with confident basic silversmithing skills or those who have attended previous workshops (soldering skills are required - please email if in doubt).
Skills taught :: Measuring and selecting gemstones, using a drill press or pendant drill rilling, seating faceted stones, using burrs, burnishing, sawing, filing, sanding, finishing.
Each workshop is inclusive of all materials for set projects, cubic zirconia gemstones, tools and plenty cups of hot coffee and tea. If you are attending the full day please bring a packed lunch with you as shops are a little too far away for the time allocated for the break.
