Stone Setting - Learn to Tube Set Gemstones
If you love a little sparkle and are looking for a classic way to include more faceted gemstones into your jewellery, this is the perfect workshop!
Tube setting is a method of setting round faceted gemstones. This is stylish way to incorporate colour & beauty of gemstones into your jewellery designs and a fantastic first step towards more complex gemstone settings.
During this workshop you will first be designing and creating your choice of ring, earrings, or a pendant to host your gemstone. Followed by learning to make a tube setting from scratch using sterling silver tubing and finishing it off by setting your personally chosen gemstone for a beautifully finished piece of handcrafted jewellery.
This workshop is for people with basic jewellery making skills and those who have attended previous workshops (soldering skills required - please email if in doubt).
Skills taught :: measuring and selecting gemstones, using a drill press or pendant drill, working with tubing, using burrs, cutting a seat, setting a facetted gemstone, sawing, filing, sanding, finishing.
£40 **All tools are provided and plenty of cups of hot coffee & teas. Materials including sterling silver and gemstones can be purchased on the day. Payment by cash, debit or credit card.
* Material costs vary depending on the type and design of your jewellery. As a rough guide approximately £5 - £15 of silver is required to make a pair of earrings or a ring / £10 - £20 for a pendant / £15 - £30 for a bangle.
**Gemstones range in price from £0.50 - £15 depending on the type and size of stone. If there is a particular gemstone you would like to use please email in advance to ensure it is in stock.
